In 2008, Lithuana National Martynas Mažvydas Library has started the reconstruction of the main building, which was completed in 2016.

The reconstruction was carried out with the funds of the State Investment Program and partially financed with the funds of the European Union Cohesion Fund, as well as the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania. The total value of the reconstruction of the main building of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania was 25 million euros.

During the reconstruction alongside other rooms a 24-seat cinema hall  has been constructed. An interactive space tailored to the needs of film screenings has been designed and equipped.

The Movie Review Hall of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania is equipped with a sound-absorbing acoustic finish, the reverberation time is chosen to be extremely short at 0.21 seconds. In addition to absorbent materials, mobile diffusers / reflectors (plasterboard base panels covered with natural wood veneer) were used to control the reverberation time in the area next to the screen, adjacent to the side wall. The entire rear wall and one side wall of the room are covered with fibrous sound-absorbing materials / structures. In order to achieve the visual integrity of the room and increase the effective sound absorption area, a mobile acoustic / fiber construction – drapery – has been installed. By increasing the sound absorption coefficient of the existing ceiling in the low frequency range, an additional fibrous material has been installed on the existing acoustic ceiling increasing the absorption by up to 25%. Acoustic interior solutions also provide the ability to darken the space during movie screenings. Mobile acoustic fiber constructions (acoustic drapery) are installed in the window and door area, these can recede if necessary and ensure natural lighting outside the viewing scenario. With such non-invasive solutions, the already existing room is adapted to the acoustically pretentious purpose of film screening.
